Restricted Area

Making the gameplay feel even more immersive was another task high up the list. We decided that we need to bring in proper service areas between each set of stages. I can't begin to tell you how many emails I receive asking how to repair a car in RR3, so we have reworked the system to make it simpler, but also a bit more in line with proper service area and rallying.

Each service area you can change tyres, of which you only get a few sets, you can also choose to repair your car based on the total engineer time, or even take a penalty for using more time that you have.

Another important thing to mention is that we have added a lot more restrictions to vary the events. this means that you will have to race some events with small cars, some with old cars, some with heavy cars, and some only with rear wheel drive. We think this will make the career mode and gameplay a lot deeper and keep people enjoying the game even more.

We've added the following possible restrictions to an event:

  • Maximum car class
  • Size of car
  • Year of manufacture
  • Drive balance (FWD/RWD/AWD)
  • Car Weight
  • Tuning Disabled (you cannot tune your car from the default)
  • Retry Disabled (you cannot ever retry a stage)

Note the screenshots below show the service area, and a list of possible restrictions that are active in the top corner. In reality you won't be seeing all 7 in play for a rally, however I've setup this rally to do this just to show you what we have..
